Gifting A Unique Wooden Watch for Him this Valentine's Day

*This post was sponsored by JORD watches. All opinions are solely mine,  Five Happy Yolks.*

I feel like I just recovered from Christmas and here we are a month out from Valentine's Day. Don't get me wrong, I do love Valentine's Day. All of the hearts and red and love.... but I always ALWAYS have such a horrible time finding a good gift for my guy. The problem is, if he wants something, he usually will just go out and buy it, if it's within our budget. So to come up with something original is not easy.

This year he's getting this gorgeous Jord watch! He actually already has it. And I have a special something for my readers! Enter to win a $100 gift certificate to be used off of your own JORD watch!  Everyone who enters will receive a 10% off code! Let me tell you, they're pretty in photos but to see them in person, I die! So nice. You can go here to enter! Entries will be accepted until 11:59pm on February 4, 2018.
You can view the catalog here

But let's talk about this watch! First, the packaging is so nice! Look at this!
It comes in this beautiful wooden box which also has a drawer for other jewelry or anything else that you may need to store in it!

It is lightweight and unique! Made from Ebony wood it is splash proof but I would never wear it in water or submerge.

To maintain your watch  don't store near excessive heat, as it may swell and crack. Same with humidity, it may cause it to swell or shrink, also resulting in cracking. I would store it in the beautiful box it came in, which is a nice gift in itself!  It's dressy or casual.

I really think it's the perfect gift! Hubby seems to think so!  Here are Jord's specifics on the watch I chose for my husband. If you fancy it, head here and check it out!

So now hurry to the entry page and fill it out! You have nothing to lose right?!

Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Here we are; Valentine's Day is upon us! What to get your guy.... I struggle with this every year.
This year I'm on top of it, he's getting a beautiful Jord watch. Head over to the review post to enter to win a $100 gift certificate off of your OWN Jord Watch!

But I had already begun to think about what to get him so here's a few things I have pinned that may help you in choosing a gift!

If you don't already, follow me on Pinterest!

This gorgeous phone case from Kohls!

I don't know about your husband, but mine goes through sunglasses like crazy! How about these aviators from Urban Outfitters!

My hubby runs and loves his Bose headphones that I got him a few years back. I think I like these better than the pair he has now. May need to put this on my list for his bday!

These moccasins from Mark & Graham are super nice!!

Does your hubby travel? Mine takes a few trips a year for military organizations. This charger storage
bag is sure to come in handy!

And how about this sportsman recovery kit? How cool is this?

I hope I helped you out a little with some ideas for Valentine's Day! Tell me in the comments what you usually do on V day. Do you do a date night, stay in, etc.

My Reading List 2018|GoodReads Reading Challenge

I am a huge reader, I always have been. Even though I go in spurts, I may read five books in a two month span and then not read again for three months, I still like to set up a challenge for myself. Last year on Goodreads I set up a personal challenge to read 24 books for the year. I ended with 19. My busy time with photography always results in me not wanting to sit down at night and read.
This year again I kept it at 24. If I go over,  then all the better!

If you're a reader and don't know Goodreads you should check it out! It's a great place to keep track of what you've read and want to read. You can follow me here

So now on to my "to read" list for 2018. I'm going to Melbourne in March so I need at least three new books for the plane!
Not all of these are new books, but just some that I may have been itching to read and haven't. I tend to have reading seasons, in the fall I want to read a good spooky book or anything that has to do with fall. In the summer I always ALWAYS go for the easy beach read and it HAS to be set on a beach. Winter, last year before Christmas I read two Christmas themed books and now that Christmas is over I'm wanting to read a mystery.. so strange but it is who I am. :)

All about a group of friends who decide to try an open marriage. Interesting and scandalous!

I started this before Christmas but then fell out of it. I'll pick it back up soon. It's about this girl who lives next door to a wild family. She falls for one of the brothers and ends up hiding the relationship from her mom. It's a YA but it's an easy read and from what I have already read I enjoyed it!

I'm usually a fiction loving girl but I found this on my Kindle and decided to download the sample. I think it will be one to pull me in. It's Howard Dully's biography. He was one of the youngest patients to have a transorbital lobotomy at age 12. After his procedure his parents basically left him to fend for himself. So sad and interesting.

A little about marriage and relationships and a little about time travel!

This has been on my list for a while. Theo loses his mother, is taken in by a family friend. We then follow him through his teen years and into adulthood.

Also not a new book but one that I've had on my list for a while. It's different format than I'm used to, a short story and then a novella, but it sounds interesting and I love J. D. Salinger.

I hope you might pick one of these up soon! And hey, if you happen to get on Goodreads and give me a follow, leave me a comment so I can follow you back! Happy Reading!

It's a New Year! Let's talk about resolutions!

It's that time of year again.... time to reflect on the past year and figure out what you want to change and see what you can do better.

For me, I have the SAME resolutions every year, work out more, eat better and lose weight. Obviously I fall off of the resolution wagon if it's always the same resolution.
So this year I'm changing them up a little, making them more attainable.

1. Get in 10K steps a day (I was on track with this over the summer, I got busy with my business and fell off badly) I have also found if I don't make a point to walk in the morning, at least two and a half miles, I won't get half of my steps in at all for that day.

2. Drink a gallon of water a day. (Again, I was doing well with this and then, honestly, I don't know what happened but I can not get my water in during the day) I fill a gallon jug and then hope to empty that by the end of the night, it's usually left at 1/4 full.

3. As a family, start eating better. More veggies and fruits, less junk and less eating out! This will get us all healthier and my budget healthier as well!

4. Spend more time with my family, enjoying them and not stressing. I have already taken a huge step in this direction by backing off in June from my photography business. I am burnt out and need a big break. (this will tie in with my next resolution)

5. Start to enjoy photography more. It's become a job and not a hobby anymore. I love it and I love that it has helped us to pay bills, feed us and take us on trips but I have let it get out of hand on my end, not enjoying it at all. So I'm starting with a project hosted by Sarah Cornish of My 4 Hens, 52 weeks. One photo a week for 2018. I am going to do this and learn to love my craft again.

6. Go back to school. This also ties in with taking my business down a notch. I never went to college after High School, I want that. What do I want to do? I'm  not sure yet... time will tell.

7. Stop saying yes to things I do not want to do just to be nice. Do others think about my feelings as much as I think about theirs? Probably not.

8. Blog more. I HAVE to get on here at least once a week. My problem is I find it hard to always have something to blog about. Hoping to change that!

So that's quite a list but I think it's doable.
What are your resolutions for 2018? Above anything I hope you make it a fantastic year! They go by so quickly we need to slow down and enjoy!

Hosting Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite holidays, maybe because I like to eat. :) Or maybe I just love the warmth that comes with it.

My parents are divorced so I usually had to split my time between TWO meals. We would usually do my dad's side first and then go have dessert with my mother's side. This caused lots of angst. Don't ever think that it's easy for families of divorce to deal with holidays and splitting up their time. It's the hardest thing in the world, you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, yet EVERYONE has to eat at the same time. The fact that we're there at all should be good enough right? Well for one side of my family, it never was. But... I digress.
So now I host and people can come when they like, I'm just happy they come at all!

The first year I hosted was pretty much a nightmare. I had never cooked a turkey, never cooked a large meal at all really, for more than 5 people. I had no idea where to even begin! I did a lot of research and let's just say my time management and food has gotten a lot better over the years. :D A for effort!

I created this outline to help me and hopefully others with your planning! I'll have some printables up later in the week for your menu, grocery shopping, etc. I'm a list maker, so I write everything down and it helps me so much!

Happy Planning!

Happy The Walking Dead Day; some zombie cupcakes and a Halloween craft

We are  a Walking Dead family. We've been waiting patiently for MONTHS for it to return and tonight is the NIGHT! WOOHOO!!!!
So to celebrate I made some zombie cupcakes!

I bought my zombie hands here and just used a basic chocolate cupcake recipe and, I'll be honest, I used store bought icing. Here's the recipe I used for the base of the  cupcake. I think they turned out pretty cute!

And while they baked I did a Halloween craft with Maverick, he was begging to go outside but we finally got a cold front, so it's a dismal, cold rainy day and I could not be happier!!

Basic Halloween craft but we had fun.

Happy Walking Dead Day! <3

Soup of the Week!

Being your own boss is great, setting my own hours, etc. But being a photographer means I work usually at dinner time or during. I try to plan my weekly menu around my sessions, always doing either a crock pot meal on session days or a soup recipe that can just simmer on the stove. So I'll be sharing a soup recipe a week with you!

This week I had an evening when I had nothing to fix, I never do that. If I leave an evening empty we eat out but I didn't want to spend the money eating out so I searched my Pinterest and found this recipe, I had all of the ingredients and already had the chicken, cooked, in my fridge! Win for me!

It was so easy and delicious, we'll definitely have it again!

I followed the recipe from here except I tweaked it a bit. I omitted the corn because it hurts my belly and  I made my own enchilada sauce because I didn't have any. It's super easy, you can find the recipe here. It's the only way I do it now, I never buy canned, it has a much better flavor than canned! Threw everything together and dinner in 30 minutes! Garnish with green onions and lots of cheddar cheese.  It was delicious and will go in our soup rotation!

I hope you enjoy and let me know if you try it out!
